Photographer Thomas Hawk wrote up an article on his recent memory card mishap, and how he handled it. First step? Do not panic.

Easy to say, but not so easy to do. For instance, on our Disneyland vacation this last Christmas, we lost over 100 photos due to a malfunctioning memory card, and while we got most of them back, it was still a sucky experience.There are a few different ways you can go about rescuing your lost photos; the article mentions the (not for free) PhotoRescue software, but there's also Zar (free) and a few others.
